Touzani Foundation

Through sport, the Touzani Foundation teaches children of Rotterdam-Zuid to develop their talents, pursue goals, and seize opportunities.

Soufiane Touzani is a world famous street footballer and initiator of the Touzani Foundation. “In my youth, I had many role models. When I became one myself, I thought: now it’s up to me. I can’t bring world peace, but I can do something for the neighbourhood where I grew up.”

The Touzani Foundation is active in the Bloemhof neighbourhood in the city’s south. “Our motto is: kids can lose their way but always get back on track. We ensure that 180 children train every Sunday. Sport gives you confidence, which offers more chances. That’s our main objective. Ability doesn’t matter; it’s about playing together.”

Role models are important. “All children want to become professional footballers, but that chance is small. I’m not a professional football player, but I am successful. This makes an impression because it’s tangible. That’s why I’m always at the Sunday training sessions. Our trainers started as apprentices and are now role models. They attended HAVO, Atheneum, Gymnasium, and the kids learn from this.”

Touzani is a Rotterdammer in heart and soul. “I was raised very wealthy. By that, I mean that I was raised within both Moroccan and Dutch cultures. Bloemhof is a very much a people’s neighbourhood. When we came to live here, Aunt Bep and Uncle Jan were ready for my mother. Therefore, my lectures can appeal to a very diverse audience. Through the Touzani Foundation, we also want to connect all kinds of Rotterdammers.”
